Answer Engine Optimization
Rank in the answers, not just the results.
InitRank turns your Google Search Console exports into keyword gaps, strictly structured answer-ready content, and proof your pages render for the bots that matter — all from a desktop app that keeps your data on your machine.
No account needed on desktop — your data never leaves your machine.
Works with your stack
- Google Search Console
- Ollama
- Claude API
- Gemini Flash
- JSON-LD
- Markdown
One toolkit for the whole answer pipeline
Three modules that take you from raw Search Console data to published, machine-readable answers — and prove they work.
Gap analysis
Find the questions you should already be winning
Drop in a Google Search Console export and InitRank surfaces your gaps — queries where you earn impressions but never the answer — clustered into topics and ranked into a working queue by opportunity.
Gap queue
sorted by opportunity
Content studio
Generate content answer engines can actually parse
Every draft is strictly structured for machines and humans: an answer-first opening, a semantic heading tree, FAQ blocks, and JSON-LD schema — validated before it ever reaches you. Runs on local Ollama or your own Anthropic key.
# draft — what-is-answer-engine-optimization.md
- ✓ Answer-first opening
- ✓ Semantic heading tree
- ✓ FAQPage JSON-LD
- ✓ Zod-validated structure
Rendering watchdog
Prove your pages render for bots
A headless watchdog fetches each page twice — as a raw crawler and as a full browser — then compares them: is your heading and body text in the raw HTML, or does it only appear after client-side JavaScript? Pass, warn, or fail per URL, in a proper terminal view. Desktop app only.
$ initrank watchdog --project initrepo.com
✓ /guides/aeo-basics — h1 + body text in raw HTML
✓ /guides/aeo-basics — renders fully without JS
✗ /pricing — content only appears after client JS

Local-first by default. Cloud when you want it.
Two ways to run InitRank — pick by how your clients feel about their data.
Desktop app
Absolute data sovereignty
On desktop, everything stays on your machine: your Search Console exports, the SQLite database, and even inference when you run a local model with Ollama. Nothing is uploaded, ever — the kind of guarantee you can put in a client contract.
- ✓ All three modules, including the rendering watchdog
- ✓ Local inference via Ollama — no API bill
- ✓ Or bring your own Anthropic API key
- ✓ Windows & macOS

The gap analyzer, hosted
Run gap analysis in the browser — upload an export, get your queue, no local setup. Includes inference limits powered by Google’s Gemini Flash tier, so there’s no key to manage. Cloud analysis is processed by third-party AI providers; if that’s a dealbreaker, the desktop app is for you.
- ✓ Hosted gap analysis, no install
- ✓ Included inference limits — no API key needed
- ✓ More hosted modules on the roadmap
From export to verified answer in four steps
01
Import
Drop in a Google Search Console performance export. Parsed and deduped in seconds.
02
Prioritize
Queries become a gap queue, clustered by topic and ranked by opportunity.
03
Generate
Answer-first drafts with semantic headings, FAQ blocks, and JSON-LD — strictly validated.
04
Verify
The watchdog fetches like a crawler and proves bots can actually read the answer.

Questions, answered
An AEO tool had better answer its own questions properly.
What is Answer Engine Optimization (AEO)?
AEO is optimizing your content to be the answer that search engines and AI assistants (Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude) actually cite — not just a blue link. In practice that means answer-first writing, semantic heading structure, FAQ blocks, JSON-LD schema, and pages that render without JavaScript. InitRank automates the pipeline: find the gaps, generate strictly structured content, verify bots can read it.
Does my data really stay on my machine?
On the desktop app, yes — completely. Your Search Console exports, the SQLite database, and inference itself (when you use a local Ollama model) all run locally; nothing is uploaded. The optional cloud tier is different by nature: analyses you run there are processed by third-party AI model providers (Google's Gemini Flash tier). We say this plainly so you can choose per client.
Do I need my own AI API key?
No. On desktop you can run a local model for free with Ollama, or plug in your own Anthropic API key for higher-quality generation. The cloud tier includes inference limits in the subscription, so there's no key to manage at all. Everything deterministic — import, gap math, the watchdog — works even with no AI provider configured.
Why does macOS warn me when I install the app?
The macOS build is currently unsigned while our Apple Developer enrollment is in progress, so Gatekeeper shows a warning on first launch. It's safe to proceed: right-click the app and choose Open, or go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway. The Windows build ships through the Microsoft Store, which signs it — no warning there. Signed macOS builds are coming shortly.
What's the difference between the desktop app and the cloud tier?
The desktop app is the full product: all three modules, a $15/mo subscription, total data sovereignty. The cloud tier ($49/mo) hosts the gap analyzer in the browser with included inference limits — convenience for quick audits, with more hosted modules planned. The rendering watchdog stays desktop-only.
What if it's not for me?
Purchases go through Polar (our merchant of record) with a 14-day refund policy — email support@initrepo.com and we'll process it, no interrogation.
